DVM Technology readies Genico, Next Generation Network (NGN)
DVM Technology Bhd will launch our flagship Next Generation Network (NGN) suite, Genico before the end of Q1 2004, with six core applications; Genico Service Delivery Platform (SDP) Core Platform, Genico Translator, Genico Virtual Private Network (VPN), Genico IP Centrex, Genico Prepaid and Genico Advanced Services.
"We've spent the past two years on developing and perfecting these six core applications," announced DVM Technology executive director Chen Chee Peng. Genico applications are aimed for users such as mobile operators, public carrier network operators, Internet-based service providers and large enterprises. "We're ready for its debut. It's now in its final preparatory and testing stage." Chen intends for Genico and DVM Technology's export-oriented focus to help change Malaysia's image to a technology innovator from a past of being a technology user. "We've to change the perception about the inferior quality of Malaysian-made products and develop a positive market acceptance." He said Genico's high success potential comes from this decade's introduction of a wired and digital global economy which stresses on effective communication as a critical competitive component. "Businesses with a mobile workforce, using mobile sales and field force automations systems, from a variety of smart devices, are becoming mainstream. Customers, suppliers and various stakeholders will be able to digitally identify themselves, transact and exchange secure and reliable information from mobile devices such as Third Generation mobile phones and Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs), personal computer and notebooks," said Chen. The central and core technology fuelling this work evolution is Internet Protocol (IP)-based technology. In addition to revolutionising the Internet, email and World Wide Web, IP-based technology has also yielded Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). With broadband and mobile Internet access becoming increasingly viable, packets of data, voice and multimedia can now economically travel on a single and robust IP-based infrastructure. This has effectively transformed mobile employees and Internet-based customers into new points of revenue generation. It also reduces both operational and investment cost, effectively lowering ownership cost and increasing productivity. For example Internet Protocol (IP)-based traffic offers a lesser cost per minute compared to traditional public switched telephone network (PSTN) usage. Furthermore, IP-based equipment has a smaller demand, with a price tag considerably lower than traditional PSTN-based equipment. It also allows businesses? Internet bandwidth to be used in an optimum manner. "We are actively pursuing this area of opportunity. With Genico, we have married open source with IP-based communication technology." Genico has three distinct advantages, said Chen. Firstly, Genico's Open Source roots reduces the cost of ownership. Secondly, Genico's application development environment which is an Open Communication Application architecture allows new features to be rapidly developed and deployed. Lastly, Genico's architecture is modular. "Genico is flexible and uses a peer-to-peer basis compared with the traditional telephony master-slave structure." New services can be amended without disrupting current operations. Genico's built-in multi-protocol translators allows interoperability with technologies such as H.323, GSM, GPRS, 3G and Media Gateway Connect Protocol (MGCP).
